The CaDev team recently conducted extensive field activities, visiting a total of 121 Fresh Life toilets across Kafue. These visits provided valuable, on-the-ground insights into both the sanitation facilities and the broader operational environment supporting their use.
The objective of the assignment was to collect data and assess the effectiveness of the Container-Based Sanitation (CBS) model within Kafue — understanding how well it meets user needs while supporting safe and sustainable sanitation practices.
Engagements with waste collectors offered a deeper understanding of the full sanitation value chain—from waste collection and handling to transportation and treatment—highlighting the importance of efficient and safe operational systems within the Fresh Life model.
Overall, the field engagements were highly insightful and encouraging. The openness and cooperation from community members and stakeholders reflect a strong foundation for continued learning, improvement, and the potential for scaling impactful sanitation solutions in Kafue.
