Strengthening Organic Waste Solutions with Black Soldier Fly

We hosted a field visit at the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) production site, where we demonstrated the ongoing progress in harnessing BSF technology for improved waste management.

The visit highlighted how organic waste is efficiently consumed by the larvae, showcasing the full cycle of converting waste into a valuable resource and illustrating how BSF can significantly ease the burden of waste management. Beyond waste reduction, the process also produces dry larvae rich in protein, an excellent feed alternative for poultry and piggery, while the processed organic residue serves as a nutrient-rich manure — further enhancing the circular value of BSF production.

We were honoured to be joined by Cornelius Zemba, the National Project Coordinator at FAO, alongside Fundi Banda, FAO’s Agricultural Extension and Food Security Expert, as well as Taonga Chanda from Eco Africa, whose insights enriched the discussion and strengthened our collaborative efforts.
