FSM Action Research Project
The Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) Research Action Project aims to improve the emptying and transport of waste in urban areas, especially hard-to-reach communities. The project is funded by the Gates foundation and managed by Partners in development (PID) South Africa. By testing practical solutions and fostering public-private collaboration, the project works to make sanitation services safer, more affordable and more sustainable, while equipping city authorities with data to strengthen service delivery. The project has action research teams active in four cities: Lusaka (Zambia), Kigali (Rwanda), Kampala (Uganda), and Kisumu (Kenya).
GreenScale Zambia Incubator & Accelerator
The GreenScale Zambia Incubator & Accelerator Project is a strategic intervention aimed at accelerating the growth of Zambia’s green and circular economy Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Lusaka and the Copperbelt. Funded by the European Union and implemented by CaDev_Catalyst Development and Challenges Zambia, the project will support 40 high-potential startups leveraging technology to build a greener, more sustainable Zambia.
This initiative seeks to identify and support businesses that are transforming waste streams into valuable products and services, contributing to environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, job creation, and inclusive economic growth. Eligible enterprises should demonstrate an active waste-to-value model, operational capacity, and a commitment to scaling sustainable circular solutions within Zambia.
Solid Waste management - Chilenje Market
